Are You Ready For A Survival Situation?

No one, nowhere, is safe from the Earth's destructive forces. We all need to be prepared. In the event of a major catastrophe the response of the government will be slow, if any. It is up to us to prepare for, and survive the situations that nature, or man himself deals to us.

The recent Tsunami in Japan and Indonesia in 2004, along with hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, was and still are, T.E.O.T.W.A.W.K.I (The End Of The World As We Know It) situations for those people. However it does not have to be a natural disaster. Man has created a lot of devastation on this planet. If you live in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Vietnam, Ukraine, Mogadishu, Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, Palestine and now Libya, just to name a few then you know what a survival situation is. The list is endless of regions that have been destroyed by nature, war, violence and genocide. These things happen every day and it will not stop anytime soon. Although we should keep hope, the future of "peace on earth" is not foreseeable.

The end of the world as we know it situation could happen to anyone at anytime, without warning. It could happen to you tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, next year, or never. If we are lucky we will live long healthy lives without major incidence. But the possibility that the world could end as YOU know it, is there, and it is very real, whether it be man or nature. You must be prepared for the worst.

This is not meant to instill fear into anyone, rather a sense of awareness, and reality. The reality is no matter how prepared you are for any survival situation, you are bound to face hard times if it happens to you. Murphy's Law says: "If it can happen, it will."

The first step you need to take in preparation for any event or situation is knowledge. Your mind will be the most useful tool you own when the (you know what) Hits The Fan. So get yourself a good book or two about survival preparation.

If you live in the city, you will need a more advanced knowledge base to deal with the chaos and lawlessness that sometimes ensues when disaster strikes, whether it be natural, man-made or economical. For example: Egypt went from a prospering nation of law-abiding citizens, to a dark, blacked out country full of violence and anarchy in a matter of hours. Now in Libya, things are much worse.

The question on everyone's mind is: Could it happen here in America? The answer simply is, Yes, it can happen anywhere. If it happens to you, will you be prepared? Or will you beg, starve, and steal along with the uninformed, uneducated beings of procrastination?

If you have read this entire article then you are smart enough to know that you should be prepared. Does a squirrel not work all summer to store enough nuts for winter? How much food is in your closet? When the power goes out, could you get clean fresh water, or keep your family warm? If you do have a private food stock, can you protect it, and defend it?

The first thing you should buy is a "Go Pack". Among the survivalist community this is called a "Bug Out Bag". A backpack full of goodies that you can grab in a moments notice if you have to flee your house due to a fire, flood, earthquake, civil unrest, etc. Don't be afraid of the word "survivalist". For many people it brings to mind a wide-eyed long bearded man in the wilderness with an AK-47, ready to shoot at anything that moves. Yes, there are those guys out there, but the majority of "survivalist's" are regular people who refuse to starve to death if for some reason the supermarkets no longer carry food. They refuse to let someone come on their property and steal the things they have worked so hard for. They are prepared for the worst and hope for the best. They will be the ones who help you, if you are unprepared.

Here is a small list of things you need in that backpack:

Water and a water filter or iodine tablets
Freeze dried or dehydrated foods such as MRE's or Mountain House Meals
Flashlights and batteries
Hand-crank Emergency Radio
Multi Tool
Extra Clothing
Rope
Lighters and Magnesium Fire Starter
Map of your area and a compass
Sun Block, Lip Balm, Toilet Paper
$20-$100 cash
Folding Shovel
Tarp
Duct Tape
Survival knife with fishing kit
First aid Kit

The Federal Government has been warning the American public for years to:

"Get A Kit, Make A Plan, Be Informed".

Will you heed this warning, or tempt the hand of fate?
