If it is a total breakdown of society in the United States, riots, civil unrest, looting or simply skyrocketing crime due to hyperinflation, security staff will be a fundamental concern. While it is fairly easy to stay safe in your home, maintaining security while in your car can be very difficult.
Defensive driving – don't be a victim
There are two main ways that may be victims in the car. One is to be a victim of robbery and the other is as a target for a smash and grab. Carjackers prey on the unsuspecting. Make it a habit to be looking around you, especially at stop signs and red lights and think how could drive quickly.
Always leave at least a half car length ahead of you; never pull up to a car's bumper. A common trick is for a car stop in front, so that you can operate and drive off as someone comes up to your car to steal it. If you feel in danger, all you need to do is hit the gas and shake the steering wheel and drive.
Another trick is the "tap the bumper", where the person behind you that a stop sign or red light hits you slightly. When you get to see if there is a damage, their partner standing on a street corner jumps in the car and drive. If you get out of your car, be sure to take your phone with you so that at least you can call the police. Leaving your mobile phone on the dashboard or the seat becomes powerless.
If someone gets the drop on you for robbery, remember that it is always possible to replace your belongings; no car and certainly nothing in it worth getting killed over. Also severely beaten will cost you thousands of dollars for a trip to the emergency room. Be smart and think about your safety. Get out and run.
A flat tire doesn't have to mean a dangerous breakdown
Often times there are robberies or carjackings only crimes of opportunity. If you find yourself with a flat tire in a situation where you don't feel safe, just continue to drive. Anyone who has seen a few episodes of "COPS" will tell you that you can ride a long way on a flat surface, even after the tire shredded to nothingness. Will the cost of a tire and maybe a wheel, but you will be safe! Change a tire requires your attention and it is too easy for someone to come up behind you while you work. In addition, once the car is on jack, are totally immobilized. Ask for help or by car.
Smash and Grab
If you leave a Purse, briefcase or laptop case in the passenger seat while driving, are advertising criminals that you can get an easy score at your expense. Drug dealers use hand signals from street corner to the street corner and so do other villains. Once someone points with a bag on the passenger seat, their partners waiting red light or stop sign next only has to run and smash your window and grab the bag. It will be gone in a matter of seconds. Do not advertise to be a victim.
