For many people, the word "Prepper" notions of a camouflage wearing, pistol that survival scary is waiting for the end of the world. However, most Preppers are very common that people do not distinguish between the crowd. They are doctors and lawyers and plumbers and carpenters and teachers of the school. Most of them do not have any camouflage!
What is a "Prepper"?
Although there could be as many definitions as there are people involved in every movement, the basic definition is that a Prepper is someone who stores food and equipment and supplies in case of emergency. Such an emergency could be a severe natural disaster like a hurricane or a tornado, a forest fire or gas leak that requires an evacuation or anything until a major collapse of the country's electricity grid. Preppers also take seriously the threat that a terrorist attack could affect the electrical network or the network of national power that keeps our grocery stores stocked shelves.
Preppers will typically have several weeks to a year for the supply of food stocked, together with flashlights, blankets, a water filtration system and usually a portable generator backup. These are people who aren't very affected by a broken water main causes a run on bottled water at the grocery store or a power outage.
What is a "survival"?
Typically a survival is a hard core Prepper, be prepared for a natural disaster, is very concerned about a breakdown in law and order. In addition to the concern for "Preppers" SHTF (shit hits the fan) scenarios, Survivalists dealing "TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it) and" situations "WROL (without rule of law). Survivalists see social order as being very fragile: dependent on a welfare system increasingly burdened by Government that it must retain more than 44 million Americans on food stamps. They understand all too well that if outstanding debt of America is not constantly recycled from foreign countries willing to buy our T-bills and bonds, we could deal with hyperinflation in Zimbabwe and Weimar Germany, which could cause massive civil unrest. Dangerous times and big risks require precautions and consider their personal safety Survivalists and those of their loved ones. A survival firearm and have usually a very specific plan for "hunkering down" or "eavesdropping" If law and order break down.
What can we learn from Preppers and Survivalists
It would be difficult to find a survival is not a Prepper, and similarly most Preppers have thought much about survivalism and protect themselves. Anyone would greatly benefit from thinking about these two groups of people and what can be learned from them.
If there was a power outage that lasted more than two or three days, what would you do? If Governments (city, State and federal) couldn't care for victims of Hurricane Katrina, what does that tell you about being prepared? Have you considered that a natural gas leak, derailment of the train with hazardous materials, power outage or terror attack could turn your family into refugees if you don't have a plan?
