Reasons to Prepare - Don't Wait, It Will Be Too Late

We all mention it in jest. What will you do when the end comes. Perhaps at a party or at the bar with friends. The fact is that one day the end will come and when it is here it will be too late to get ready. There is no need to panic now however. A little forethought and perhaps a small investment you too can be ready when the apocalypse arrives.

This end can come from many sources. All a person has to do is watch the news, read the paper, or just look at an online current events site. There is always some event being thrown at us that has some potential cataclysmic outcome. I am sure that is why some people even avoid the new all together. The barrage of evidence is obvious and now is the time to take note and get ready for the inevitable.

The first area of potential catastrophe and probably foremost is the environment or a natural disaster. The recent floods, hurricanes, global warming, and water crisis have probably brought a drop of sweat to your brow. It has mine. Our planet sees us as a pest that is destroying it and is trying to get rid of us. This is a battle that we cannot win as we live on this earth and are damaging it beyond repair.

Now I move to the issue of the man-made disasters. I am speaking to issues like a gas shortage, financial collapse, terrorism, or biological warfare. Once we run out of the sources we need for our "modern" appliances it is sure that some sort of chaos will break out. Everything that we now rely on to survive will be useless once our electricity goes out or we run out of the gas for our cars. A terrorist can also pose a big threat to us by releasing a biological weapon or perhaps even nuclear attacks. We are in a dangerous and pivotal point in time when the balance can be easily be tipped.

Finally, I am going to address the matter everyone has heard of the Mayan calendar prophesy. On December 12th of 2012 the end is predicted to come as the Mayan calendar is over. This is believed to relate to a great number of things. However, it is significant that the most intelligent culture on earth ended its calendar that day. Could this day be the end?

This is not meant to be a scare tactic. However, it never hurts to be aware of the current goings on and how they can relate to the end. We may be put in this situation. It's easy to say, "not in my lifetime" but looking at what is going on this great planet earth one has to wonder.

Economic Collapse in the US - How to Prepare

Economic Collapse: Could It Happen Here?

With out of control government spending and more cities, counties and even states having financial crises, the possibility of a Collapse in the US is becoming more and more real to many people. Hyperinflation and riots are what many experts predict could be coming our way soon, and it wouldn't be the first time in history. The country in the Western Hemisphere most like the US, Argentina, suffered a total economic collapse just ten years ago, plunging their once thriving country into a period of chaos, riots and crime.

Before the collapse in 2001, the Argentine middle class was at least as well off as the middle class in the US. Argentina was, and remains to this day, one of the top grain exporters in the world. However, incompetent government officials, bad economic policy, runaway borrowing and spending led the government to one day having to devalue its currency, once on par with the dollar, to one-third of its former value. This happened almost overnight, as banks were closed and accounts frozen and middle class workers who saved their entire lives saw their savings evaporate. The pensions of retirees were suddenly worth a third of what they had been the week before.

What Do I Do If My Money Becomes Worth Less and Less?

Argentine author Fernando Aguirre advises Americans to invest in precious metals, as they are a "hard currency" that will hold value much better than the paper currency that the government continues to print. With cash being less valuable, expect property crimes to skyrocket. For this reason, Aguirre devotes a large percentage of his book, "Surviving in Argentina" to self-defense, as his former middle class life has turned into one in which personal security is of paramount importance in light of skyrocketing crime.

How Will I Feed My Family?

The other lesson that should be learned from what happened in Argentina is that Americans should have a food storage program, where they have several weeks of non perishable food in their home. In times of economic crisis, grocery store shelves can be empty and, even if there is ample food, it may either be unaffordable or civil unrest may make a trip to the store dangerous. If you store food that your family is already eating, there is no financial risk, as you will definitely eat it anyway. But if there is an economic collapse, you will be glad you put money into your pantry instead of a bank at one quarter of a percent interest.

For the specific plans about being prepared, you can go to a 'nuts and bolts' regular guy Prepper YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/survive2day. You'll find practical advice instead of just guns and ammo and camouflage.

Because people do not prepare for emergencies, when they should!

This guide to emergency preparedness is not designed for the SHTF, TETOWAKA or the so-called ' Community ' survival, but rather focuses on the proven techniques that could save your life. This is a no-nonsense approach to disaster planning staff for the average person and is based on information from aid responsible organizations such as the Red Cross, The Federal Emergency Management Agency, from professionals and from my training in homeland security.

Why should prepare

Preparing for an emergency situation is often overlooked in the fast pace of modern life and there are many reasons to consider at least a weeks worth of emergency supplies so that you and your family can survive until the rescue.

Most people take for granted emergency responders, not that they don't value their services, but that assumes that they are there when needed; This is not always the case.

In the event of a large-scale emergency, first responders and their resources will be depleted quickly thanks to a sudden increase in demand.

First responders often become victims of disasters such as their vehicles and equipment are often rendered useless until they are cleared roads and debris.

Depends on the scale of the disaster could take several days for external emergency response crews from nearby cities or States. (During Hurricane Katrina Helicopter Rescue crews responded as far as Kodiak Alaska)

Budgeting constraints often leaves local emergency services woefully undermanned and under equipped to the duty of the media, let alone during a disaster.

Many people do not realize that they need to prepare for an emergency, because they do not live in areas traditionally affected by natural disasters, but there are literally hundreds of disaster scenarios that can occur anywhere and anytime.

Possible scenarios that may not have considered:

Severe seasonal flooding
A prolonged interruption mass
Winter storms that closed roadways
Prolonged disruptions of public utility
Water scarcity due to drought or contamination
Terrorist attacks involving radiological or biological chemistry nuclear weapons
Epidemic biofilters
Wild fires
Contamination of food supply (ie: e. coli or salmonella)

Despite the fact that many disasters can occur anywhere and at any time, many people simply refuse to submit to reality and ready themselves for an emergency situation. Let's take a look at some of the reasons why people do not prepare.

Because people do not prepare

The most common reason that people do not prepare for a disaster scenario is that you don't think that might happen to them. This is an absolute falsehood and simple psychology plays an important factor in this phenomenon.

One of the problems that contributed to the terrible consequences of Hurricane Katrina was that the previous year a big hurricane had struck the Gulf Coast and has had very little effect. Many people decided to ride Katrina under the assumption that it would be as harmless as the previous storm; Tragically, this was not the case.

People's brains are hard wired to assume that anything devastating happen to them because most disaster scenarios are extremely different from their normal experience.

In order to successfully prepare for a disaster we must reject this way of thinking and really about science, data and hard facts. We must also change the stigma of society associated with disasters.

Many people associate disaster preparedness tactics, like food, storage, to be the past tense of militia types paranoid; This couldn't be further from the truth.

Nonpartisan organizations such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Red Cross suggests that all have different supplies set aside for emergencies.

Being prepared is a Boy Scout motto or slogan paranoid, but rather an intelligent decision adopted by individual looking out for their own well-being and the well-being of their families.
