Defining the Suicide Bomber

In order to combat suicide bombers we must acclimatize ourselves to initially understand their temperament. These irrational human beings focus upon premeditated violence customarily motivated by political concerns. Frequently, the target group of people which these offenders seek out is noncombatant or civilian populations. We are looking at a mentality which deems their ultimate death as a major precondition towards a successful mission.

Customarily the most difficult segment of any military mission is the final or escape phase. Since the ultimate death of the perpetrator is eminent, the leaders of these clandestine groups can plan and execute more complex missions then would be normally attributed to regular military activities. Unfortunately, terrorist suicide missions often act as a force type multiplier and have specific tactical advantages over conventional warfare. We must always bear in mind that these people have only one major goal and that is to kill.

Why should we as survivalists and preppers be concerned with Suicide bombers? The answer boarders upon the fact that these villains are not selective as to who they target. They can launch an attack at schools where innocent children are in attendance or they can leisurely stroll into a local hospital with several pounds of C4 strapped to their bodies. The victims can be one of your friends or a family member who may be caught up in the bombers plans. They are a hazard to everyone and we should rightfully be aware of them.

There are three essential types of suicide bombers. These types are Type I, II and III. I will briefly cover each of these types in the following paragraphs.

A Type I suicide bomber is characterized as one which employees concealed explosives within common everyday substances. The objects are frequently camouflaged to shield their true intent. These items may be hidden in such familiar items as guitars or their cases, lunch boxes or thermos bottles. The contained mass of the explosives is generally from 11 to 33 pounds. Fragmentation materials such as glass or nails can often be discovered within the device as well. The intention of Type I bombers is to safely blend their weapon of mass destruction into the target environment. As an example, you may observe that after an investigation a guitar case was used during a bombing adjacent to a music academy. Generally, a small push button switch may be attached to a short wire extending from the object and reaching the hand of the person who set the device.

Type II devices are the popular body bombs heard of on the evening news reports. A body bomber usual carries from 1 to 22 pounds of explosives. Frequently these bombs are concealed under the persons clothing. Here we must be familiar with TNT, dynamite, Semtex, or the improvised variety of explosives. Usual you will distinguish these bombers by the explosives being worn as a belt wrapped around their waist. In most cases fragmentation bombs are not uncommon since they cause extensive death benefits for the suicide bomber. Electric blasting caps are a popular means of detonation while a common nine volt battery provides plenty of juice to initiate the explosion.

Now we will cover the type III bomber. This criminal element likes to use vehicles as their means of attack. They load up the truck or car with plenty of explosives and literally drive it to the detonation site. A prime example of this type of attacker would be the Okalahoma City bomber.

In our next session we will cover the 12 major identifiable terrorist groups which have made a name for themselves by the use of suicidal bombings.
